My attempt at cobbling together audio for a video on Nietzsche – it’s a little rough at first, but WMM can be tacky to use. I try to present Nietzsche’s refutation of traditional metaphysics as a justification for atheism and the “revaluation of all values” away from sin, guilt, and the Moral World Order that Kant postulated. For Kant, morals were just as real and objective as the chair you are sitting on. One had the duty to follow the categorical imperative: one could be held responsible for every action one did. But are we really responsible? Did Kant overstate humanity’s free will and ability to order the causes of their actions? Was this excessive rationalization in fact cruelty towards life? Nietzsche’s answers are no, yes, yes. In denying rational responsibility, he also denies the other related aspects of rationality – namely, the penchant to look for causes *a priori*. Nietzsche instead asks: what caused us to look for -to need- causal explanations? Does the excessive rationalization and cause-creating drive actually falsify reality?
